A Bit About Me
Britton Smith is the Senior Director of Community Partnerships for REFORM Alliance, an organization focused on changing criminal justice through transformative probation and parole legislation, led by Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, Robert Smith, Robert Kraft, Michael Rubin and Meek Mill. Under the leadership of CEO, Jessica Jackson, Britton Smith utilizes his talents as an experienced national campaign and political strategist who has specialized in helping organizations and candidates appeal to a more modern and reflective demographic.
In 2015, Britton became the National Political Chairman for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., organizing their membership of over 170,000 on voter registration projects, civic education efforts and shaping their legislative advocacy agenda. Organizing nationwide, Britton has established a rapport with community leaders and lawmakers alike. This included reinstating the National Policy Conference and Lobby Day known as Kappas on Capitol Hill.
After a career on Capitol Hill, Smith was asked to serve as a representative on the White House’s task force on criminal justice reform working with other prominent leaders in the space of criminal justice in 2015. The following year, Britton was asked to serve with and brief various transition teams for the incoming Presidential Administration.
In 2018, Britton worked closely with community change agents in both Mississippi and Virginia to see criminal justice reform move through the legislatures successfully. He was also influential in lobbying efforts on behalf of the landmark federal legislation “The First Step Act.”
In 2022, Britton co-chaired and organized the inaugural Joint Fraternal Legislative Day, where all 5 of the D9 fraternities came together for a legislative policy conference in Washington DC and took the needs of the Black community to Capitol Hill as a collective of Black men.
In July of 2023, in addition to serving as National Political Chairman, Britton became the Deputy Chief of Staff to Kappa Alpha Psi's 35th Grand Polemarch, Jimmy McMikle. In his portfolio, he works on special projects such as National Leadership Summit, strategic partnerships, and NPHC activities among other duties.
Britton currently serves on the Independent Review Board in the Office of the Ombudsman for the State of New York, the advisory board of the Center for Justice and Post-Exoneration Assistance at Purdue University Northwest, and Always for the People (AFTP) based in California.
